NKC Rug Collection

To empower underprivileged people

A set of authentic Jaipur rugs, this collection is named after Nand Kishore Chaudhary (NKC), the founder of Jaipur Rugs Co. NKC started his business in 1978 working beside 9 artisans on two looms. His goal was and is to empower the underserved. In addition to appreciating this ancient craft, NKC also noticed that the workers were not paid well and were often mistreated. He showed how determination and willpower – when coupled with knowledge, clear vision and proper planning – enables one to be an effective leader while at the same time, remain humble.

What began in 1978 on a very small-scale level has bloomed into a network of more than 40,000 artisans across six states. Today, Jaipur Rugs is India’s leading manufacturer and exporter of hand-knotted rugs, with carpets reaching more than 40 countries across the world.

NKC’s passion for rural artisans is rooted in his vision to empower underprivileged people. He does this by identifying, developing and enhancing the artisans’ skills so that they can lead sustainable and respectful lives.
