History of Indo-Persian Rugs

These rugs were first attributed to India, but some scholars attribute them to Herat.

Characteristics of Indo-Persian Rugs

  • Material and Knots

Warps are silk with three cotton or silk wefts between rows of knots. Knot densities are between 250 and 400 knots per square inch.

  • Color

They are predominantly red and green in color.

  • Design and Pattern

Designs generally including small floral elements, vines, animals, birds, and cloud bands.
