A bast fiber of Cannabis sativa. Hemp is used for making rope or very coarse fabrics. In the Near East, the plant buds are smoked as hashish or bhang, while the leaves are smoked in the United States as marijuana or pot. Hemp has been used in the foundation of rugs of India and Afghanistan. Hemp It has been used for weftin older Chinese rugs and for warps in some Romanian kilims.
