How to dry a area rug after flooding?2018-04-12T18:17:12-04:00

Flooding and rugs

There’s nothing more awful than strolling ground floor and venturing into a puddle where you expected a dry floor. Water damage to rugs is a normally observed issue, and one that causes a ton of grief; regardless of whether a cracked water radiator transforms into a spring or a latrine floods, water damage can cost you in more ways than one. There is no standard strategy for managing each flooding circumstance since each flooding circumstance will have its own particular distinguishing issues. On account of heavy flooding, regardless of whether it’s from a catastrophic event, broken appliance, burst pipe, or other water crisis, many individuals feel that there’s no way their rugs can ever be saved. To forestall and tidy up water damage, you can look for some helpful tools which we will clarify with each progression. The essential inquiry that must be tended to is the sort of flooding that has happened, sanitary flooding (clean water), unsanitary flooding (dim water) and dark water. Here’s some explanation about the three types of water damage that can happen because of flooding and how each affects rugs.

Sanitary flooding (Clean Water)

Sanitary flooding is water that begins from a source that isn’t unsafe to people, similar to a busted overhead water pipe. This water is safe to deal with and you, as the homeowner, can get a hop on the cleanup efforts. On the off chance that the flood in your house is caused by a blasted pipe, malfunctioning appliance, tub or sink that has flooded, chances are it’s an after effect of what’s called clean water. Essentially, this kind of water can be dealt with and contains no contaminants or waste and is the safest to clean up.

Unsanitary flooding (Grey Water)

Grey water will be water that may contain some tainting, particularly if ingested, yet it isn’t exceptionally safe overall. This can be flooded with your dishwasher or clothes washer or maybe a sump pump failure. Some flooding from outside may fall into this group, yet it is best to talk about it with a trained personnel who have any idea of the situation to understand the nature of the pollution. Flood from greywater accompanies a larger number of dangers than clean water, as it has altogether more potential to cause illness if it’s touched. Be that as it may, the danger of illness typically is absent since there’s no solid waste. Despite the fact that the rug pad that has been soaked with grey water must be tossed out for wellbeing reasons, the carpet itself can regularly be cleaned and treated.

Blackwater

This is water that totally contains residue and natural waste or even crude sewage. Water spills from toilets, backed-up sewers and flood waters from waterways (rivers) or streams are altogether viewed as black water. This is the most perilous kind of water in flood damage and it’s unsanitary on the grounds that it either has the organism in it that can conceivably cause sickness or solid waste. In the event that your house was flooded because of a catastrophic event, storm, or sewage backup, it likely black water; while some region rugs can be purified, cleaned, and thoroughly dried, rugs and padding should be swapped for keeping your family safe. All cleaning relating to this sort of flooding requires protective equipment to guarantee the wellbeing and security of those working in the area.

Techniques to drying Carpets after Flood

It’s quite unfortunate that there is no institutionalized methodology for managing this pesky circumstance but there are steps you can take to limit the damage. The key step obviously is to contact an expert restoration company that knows how to deal with this problem. Before we go that far, nonetheless, we need to take a look at some different steps.

1. Turn off water supplier

In the event that you’ve identified the appliance that is causing the flood or probably where the flood is coming in, the initial step is to promptly close off and control the source of the water. The exact opposite thing you need is for another hole to grow. Keep it off until the point that experts arrive and completely assess your home. In case you don’t know where the break is originating from, closed off water to the entire house.

2. Shut off electricity or Gas Valves

If it is safe to do so, turn off power to the affected area and take away any electrical gadgets that you can. Power and water don’t blend, so please make a special effort to be mindful when performing this step. Shut off gas valves to home appliances, water valves and the power on the main fuse. Know that surges of power amid gas breaks can cause vicious ignitions. Unplug every single electrical item and store them far from the floodwaters. Some hardware can hold a charge notwithstanding when they have been unplugged so always be on the safer side of caution.

3. Avoid walking on the rugs

All movement ought to be constrained until the point that the rug is completely dry. The explanation behind this is because the materials that keep carpet together wind up noticeably weak and along these lines inclined to permanent damage when wet. The heaviness of your body likewise drives dirt and water once more into the rug and can bring about additional damage. You likewise risk slipping and harming yourself.

4. Remove furniture standing on the rug

Rapidly remove any furniture that may stain or harm the rug. On the off chance that a specific item is too heavy to lift, endeavour to put aluminium foil under its legs. This will in any event diminish the probability of damaging the rug.

5. Remove surface dirt

After evacuating the furniture, likewise remove all noticeable dirt on the surface of the rug. This depends entirely on if the sort of surge is a clean one where there is no dark or grey water noticeable on the rug.

6. Water extraction

Extraction of water should start promptly and the rug ought to be totally dry inside 12 hours following intervention. Removing water can be done with a water extraction vacuum. Experts normally require a few hours to get to your home so there is quite a lot you can do meanwhile to get the process rolling.

7. Post-extraction

Immediately after extracting the water, the rug ought to be removed from the tack strip and the carpet padding ought to dependably be disposed off. Rug ought to be hoisted and fans ought to be used to speed drying time. Should your latrine flood and the water seeps into your rug, at that point it might just be smarter to simply change it! In any case, an official conclusion ought to be deferred until the point when you talk with an expert.

Drying is by a wide margin the hardest piece of post-flood restoration. Be that as it may, the irony is that the rug could then get wet once more. Preferably, you ought to have your rugs professionally shampooed after you dry it. It is quite possible to tidy up after a flood without any expert assistance; it obviously relies upon the degree of the damage. We recommend reaching out to an expert and getting a free inspection in any case. Regardless of whether you don’t settle for restoration service, in any event, you’ll get a full and precise appraisal of your situation.

Avoid rugs with familiar prices

Many area rug stores get a significant percentage of their annual revenues in November and December. Therefore, they try everything possible to make customers believe that they are getting a great deal during days like Black Friday. In fact, some stores advertise the same rug for the same price several times in their ads. Therefore, if you notice a familiar sale price, don’t buy the rug. Instead, conduct some research first.

At Rugman, we have unique Black Friday rug deals for our customers. That’s because we want to give you a truly unique experience this special day. For instance, it’s only with our Black Friday sale that you get 40% off on original rugs. This is really a big discount that no customer wants to miss.

Track the rug price

If you want to buy a specific rug, follow its price carefully. That’s particularly important if you want to buy an expensive or a luxurious rug. With our store, it’s easy to conduct an online research of the rug that you want to buy. Even better, you will find information about the prices of different models and brands of the rug that we sell online.

For instance, you can find details of the prices of hand-knotted rugs, hand-tufted rugs, and machine made rugs that you want to buy at Rugman.com. You also find price details of rugs from different countries that Rugman sells. These include Persian rugs, Egypt rugs, Afghan rugs, Nepal rugs, Russian Rugs, Turkish rugs, Romania rugs, and Indonesia rugs among others. Tracking the prices of the available rugs for sale online gives you a reason to take advantage of Black Friday rug deals.

Check quality

One of the dirty secretes of the modern retail industry is the fact that there are merchandise that are made cheaply and specifically for outlets. These are hugely sold on offer during the holiday seasons. Despite being made of low-quality materials, the majority of them look like the normal products of a brand. Therefore, check the quality of the carpets that you purchase to avoid being ripped off when buying rugs on Black Friday. Be keen to determine their value.

Perhaps, the best way to ensure that you don’t buy poor quality area rugs is to shop at a reputable store. A store like Rugman has an elaborate process of sourcing for rugs from manufacturers. Basically, we can track each of the rugs that we sell from its manufacturer. That means you are guaranteed the best deal on quality and original rugs when you take advantage of our Black Friday sale. In fact, you won’t find a better deal on original rugs anywhere else.

Question MSRP

Perhaps, you might wonder how you can determine whether a rug store has a genuine big sale that will save you money. Generally, every savvy shopper is skeptical of the MSP number or simply the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price. Even though the name makes you think that the manufacturer sets this number, it’s actually the retailers who set it. That’s why it varies among retail stores. And, there is very minimal ways of preventing stores from inflating this number in their effort to make their deals look great. Therefore, to ensure that you are not carried away by rugs with prices that are marked down by half, take time to compare prices.

At Rugman, we offer real discounts during our Black Friday sale. We consider the cost of acquisition for the rugs to ensure that the deal benefits our customers. We do not inflate the MSRP number just to make our deal look great. That’s particularly true because we sell genuine rugs only. We have established a network with reputable rug makers from different parts of the world. This network enables us to get wholesale rugs at discounted prices and pass this discount to our customers.

Check other months

Black Friday may get all the glory for amazing rug sales. However, it might not be the only time when stores offer the best rug deals. It’s therefore important to check other months to find out whether it’s really wise to buy the rugs that you are after on Black Friday. For instance, you may notice that the rug that you want to buy was selling at a lower price last Christmas or Valentine’s Day than this Black Friday.

At Rugman.com, you can easily compare the prices of different rugs. We also provide information on our Black Friday rug deals through email campaigns. That means you can easily compare prices of the rugs that you want to purchase and determine whether it’s wise to buy them on Black Friday.

Determine how long you should wait

Many retailers roll out their Black Friday sales earlier. Therefore, start checking websites of stores like Rugman or their Black Friday ads to know whether the store will have the best Black Friday sale. However, be realistic. For instance, if waiting for Black Friday to buy your favorite rug will save you only a dollar, buying it now might be better than being worried and even risking to miss out.

Also, if you plan to purchase a oriental hand knotted rug, we can’t guarantee we will find you a similar rug if the one you want is sold. Most of our hand knotted rugs are unique, the exception being new modern rugs and brand rugs which are made in large quantities. Otherwise, Persian rugs, Afghanistan rugs, Indian rugs and other oriental rugs are for the most part unique. So play it safe, know your rug and decide if you should take the risk and wait it out. Ragman’s advise is for all oriental rugs buy it first and you can always return it.

How to tell the difference between Persian and oriental area rugs?2018-04-12T16:07:21-04:00

To understand hand knotted area rugs, you need to understand the difference between what is meant as “Oriental rugs” and “Persian rugs”. Many of our customers at Rugman ask us this question. These are the customers we love to discuss anything that has to do with rugs; such as knot counts and motifs. So the simple answer is that Persian rugs are Oriental rugs. Oriental rugs simply refer to rugs made in oriental countries. Persian rugs are made in Iran and Iran is an oriental country. But not all oriental rugs are Persian rugs. Because Persian rugs are traditionally the famous type of hand-knotted rugs, they have their own distinction. Where rugs from other oriental countries are typically grouped together and are referred to as Oriental rugs.

Many people use the terms “Persian carpet” and “Oriental carpet” interchangeably, and as we said they are not exactly the same thing. The difference between Persian and Oriental Rugs is quite vast. Both Persian and Oriental rugs are beautiful and unique in their own way. Here are some of those distinctions.

Place of origin

A rug that originates from central Asia, a region once known as The Orient, is an Oriental rug. This region comprises China, Afghanistan, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Iran, and India. Hence, a rug made in any of these countries is an oriental rug. The Persian rug dates many centuries back to the Persian Empire. While it can be proven that the borders of the Persian Empire changed from time to time. Persian area rugs refer to the present day country of Iran.

Design

One key distinction between Persian rugs and other Oriental rugs is the design. A conventional Persian carpet can include any four primary patterns: all-over, compartment, central medallion and one-sided. Most styles feature symmetrical design or at least designs that appear symmetrical. Persian rugs usually make use of warm-toned colors. Their wool is dyed deep indigo, rust stones, ivory, red, Golden yellow and sage. Oriental rugs incorporate the same patterns as Persian rugs, usually with a twist. They often contain flora and fauna motifs, using a more curved line quality than is typically seen in Persian rugs. They also include landscape designs with mountains, fields, lakes, and trees. Many Oriental rugs are also sculpted with contrasting colors that add texture to the designs in the weave. Flowers, trees, and clouds may be raised from the field to create a three-dimensional effect.

Knots

Another significant difference between Persian and oriental rugs is the type of knots used to create the rug. Oriental rugs are of utmost quality, with smaller hand-tied knots and a denser pile than other rugs. Authentic Oriental and Persian rugs are knotted by hand on looms. Persian rugs are noted for their supreme craftsmanship and quality, with up to 160 hand knots per square inch. Symmetrical Ghiordes knot is used to tie the Oriental rugs. The Ghiordes knot is found in rugs that are hand knotted in the Kurdish areas and Turkey. Persian rugs are typically knotted using a Senneh knot that is asymmetrical. Countries that have spent the last millenniums trying these types of knots include Pakistan, China, India, Egypt, and Iran.

What is the distinction between Persian and Oriental rugs?

It is sometimes hard to distinguish the difference between Persian and Oriental rugs. Their natural wool fibers, ancient and intricate designs, great artistry and durability make them very popular rugs. Over time, both types of rugs increase in value. Besides, both types of rugs have been handcrafted. This makes them a treasure that can bring happiness and elegance to your home for many years to come. At Rugman we provide a 30-day no-questions-asked return.

What would be the best choice to buy a hand-knotted area rug for my business?2018-04-12T14:13:30-04:00

Quality hand-knotted rugs standout when placed properly in business premises or offices. Pieces like Persian rugs are timeless statement products that speak elegance, style, and status in upscale offices. The best hand-knotted rugs are made through a long process that entails drawing designs, sorting wool and drying it, knotting individual knots, shearing and washing them, and much more. The look, quality, and price of these rugs depend on numerous variables including material, knots per every square inch of the rug, dyes, design intricacy, and wool’s quality. Nevertheless, having a nice hand-knotted rug in an upscale office such a consulting office, a law office or any other upscale location has numerous benefits.

What do you mean by spring-cleaning, when it comes to my area rug?2018-04-12T13:22:46-04:00

A simple guide to help you spring clean your home’s area rugs

Your carpet takes quite the beating during the cold freezing months of winter. From streaks of wet snow to muddy spots, the rugs and carpets in your home accumulate all manner of dirt. The raging cold weather makes it next to impossible to carry out a thorough job of keeping them clean.

Spring-cleaning dates back many years

This is what makes spring-cleaning an important activity for your home. Dating back to the medieval times when the people had no use of technology, spring-cleaning has come a long way. In the absence of handy cleaning solution and machines, people had to suspend all rug and carpet cleaning activities until winter break.

Rugs packed substantial grime

As you can imagine, these handy rugs packed a considerable amount of dirt and grime after months of continuous use and abuse. Hence, as soon as the weather broke, cleaning was the top priority for these folks. They spent the first few days of spring restoring the sanitary standards of the home.

Rugs, instead of large wall-to-wall carpets were the most popular floor furnishing of those times. Hence, they would just haul them outside and set upon them with a stick until they were free of dirt. Afterward, they would hang them out in the sun before dragging them back indoors.

Modern cleaning conveniences

Thankfully, advancement in cleaning technology spares you the indecency of putting up with unsanitary conditions in the home. Regularly vacuuming your rugs over winter keeps the home clean and tidy. While such efforts suffice to keep the place clean, it does not rid the rugs of all the dirt, stains, and allergens.  With a little bit of effort and preparation, you can clean your rugs thoroughly during the springtime and get exceptional results.

Get the right equipment

For a more effective clean, you have to go beyond the regular vacuum cleaner. You can have a choice between various carpet cleaning machines.

  • Steam cleaners use pressurized steam to extract the dirt from the rug into a holding tank. Besides the hot water, you can add a cleaning agent for a clean sheet.
  • An encapsulation machine applies a chemical foam that crystallizes around the dirt particle on the rug. You just need to leave it to dry then remove with a regular brush or by vacuuming. This method uses less water, leaves less chemical residual, and boasts a quicker drying time.
  • Bonneting machines are effective when you need to clean carpets in a high traffic area. They make use of a heavy rubbing pad and cleaning agents. You can also opt for dry carpet cleaning machine that use counter-rotating brushes and cleaning agent to remove dirt.

Who made the first rug?2018-04-11T21:42:05-04:00

“In 7000 BC, primitive man lived in caves, a very humble beginning to living in a dwelling. They used animal skins to cover the rough earthen floors of their “homes,” to provide some protection from the cold. This must have been the humble beginning of floor coverings, which has surely come a long way. Carpets and rugs were first made by nomadic tribes, who found a new use of their flock of sheep. They wove these carpets on small sized wooden vertical looms which were portable and hence could be carried easily from one place to another. Evidence has been found in Siberia, where the Pazyryk Carpet was excavated from the tomb of the Shiite chief, in the Pazyryk Valley in the Altai Mountains in Siberia.Since it was found frozen in ice, this historic masterpiece has been very well preserved and is currently exhibited at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. The Pazyryk Carpet measures 183×200 cm and has a high knot density of around 360,000 knots/square inch. It was probably woven around 400 BC. The ribbon motif in the center of this carpet is surrounded by a border of a procession of warriors on horses and another border of deer. The colors are vibrant shades of green, red and yellow. This is truly a magnificent piece of skilled weaving and art. “
