Persian Rugs, Oriental Rugs, Persian Area Rugs From Rugman.com

Oriental rugs are hand-woven in towns and villages across Asia. Durable, versatile and beautiful, they compliment every decor.

With the exception of Chinese and Tibetan rugs, most Oriental area rugs share some common design elements as a result of cultural and trade ties that have existed across the region for thousands of years. Though they look very different, modern rugs share the same history and are crafted in the same way as traditional rugs.

Woven by generations of craftsmen across a vast area from the Mediterranean and Black Seas to the Caucasus, Iran, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and China, the tradition of making quality, handmade rugs is common to all Oriental rug makers.

Persian Oriental rugs are considered to be the finest examples of all Oriental rugs, while Chinese rugs are prized for their unique designs.

TRIBAL ORIENTAL RUGS—LUXURIOUS AND CASUAL

Many of the Oriental rugs that we see today are woven by the people of nomadic tribes. The original environmentalists, these tribal rug weavers rely on traditional dyes, looms and weaving techniques.

Tribal rug designs tend to be simple, geometric and brightly colored. Seen on Oriental rugs and Persian rugs of all sizes, they are used to add a sense of luxury to casual settings such as family rooms, kitchens and offices.

Try using two or three small Oriental rugs in the family room to divide the space into separate activity or seating areas.

Placing a medium or large Oriental rug under the kitchen table emphasizes the room’s family space. A small Persian rug in front of the kitchen sink will protect the floor.

In the bedroom, augment the look of wood floors by setting three small Oriental rugs or Persian rugs around the bed for warmth, comfort and a splash of color.

CENTRAL MEDALLIONS—FORMAL AND ELEGANT

Oriental rugs with central medallions are quite formal and are usually placed in living rooms and foyers to augment the elegance of the spaces.

Set an Oriental rug in front of a sofa or central seating area to create an intimate focal point and draw your guests into the living room.

ALL-OVER DESIGNS—FOR BEAUTY AND AMBIANCE

Oriental rugs with an all-over design are most often used in dining rooms to enhance their depth and beauty.

Choose an Oriental rug that is larger than the dining room table, leave a wide border for the floor to show and add to the room’s ambiance. Beautiful surroundings accentuate our appreciation of the dining experience.
