A
rug pad will extend the life of your area rug by providing a smooth,
supportive base in addition to preventing you from slipping and sliding
on hard surfaces. If you have wood, ceramic, slate, linoleum, or marble
floors, a rug pad will maintain the placement of your area rug. It
reduces wear and tear on your wool rugs, absorbs impact, and reduces
noise. Before putting your rug pad down, please ensure that the floor
is even and has no rough patches.
There are different features and fabrications available in a rug pad.
An Oriental rug pad is made of duragen rubber and fabric, is
approximately ΒΌ inch thick, and designed for hard or uneven surfaces or
carpet. Another option is high quality polyester fabric coated with a
high-grade vinyl compound. This type of rug pad can be custom cut to
fit any rug size and combines maximum cushioning with maximum non-slip
qualities. It will also inhibit the growth of odor causing bacteria,
mold, and mildew. A rug pad featuring a needle-punched fabric with
textured waffle-backing improves gripping power and insulation on hard
surface floors and carpets. A good rug pad made of a woven polyester
fabric coated with a special poly-vinyl compound will not stain,
discolor, or stick to flooring or rugs. It is mold and mildew proof as
well as being flame retardant. A rug pad hand washes easily and should
be laid flat to air dry.
Hide the irregularities or grout lines in stone or tile floors with a
good quality rug pad. It provides a solid base that will reduce rug
puckering around furniture legs and supports thin or fine rugs. A rug
pad will provide additional comfort underfoot, keep your rug safely in
place, and will not harm your rugs or your floors. It will help with
vacuuming by providing increased air flow and working with your vacuum
cleaner to remove dirt, thereby extending the life of your area rug.
